In Japan, Boys Love (BL) is the term that includes comics (manga) centered around a romance between two boys. These comics (if you believe the translations in French) appeared in Japan in the early 1990s.
It discerns in BL works, they say Yaoi showing scenes of a sexual nature and said Shōnen-ai that do not - or little - sexual scenes.
