Rama Yade in Orleans, we're here!

Saturday 14 June 2008

Rama Yade Yesterday, at the Auditorium of Fine Arts, Rama Yade (Secretary of State for Human Rights and Foreign Affairs), who begins his "Tour de France des Droits de l'Homme", wished the Gagli is invited among the many who work here and elsewhere on the subject of human rights.

Vincent, Noelle and I are therefore rendered to "go public".
In the introduction, Mr Grouard welcomes the determination of the minister in his battles and then it passes the floor. Rama Yade states very clearly his two priorities under the European Presidency of France which begins on 1 July: the fight against violence against women and the fight against homophobia.
Then associations are invited to ask questions. Most questions relate to international relations of France, the problems of Africa, Tibet and so on.
When our turn comes, I raised the question of recognition of the World Day against Homophobia, the means used to celebrate this day and ways of prevention in the region, for example by returning to school . His answer is very clear and strong belief. She says the official recognition of World Day against Homophobia by the French government. She announced that France will a statement at the United Nations to seek the decriminalization of homosexuality in the World. She did not respond on the local level.

One can only rejoice at these ads that may give us the hope for advancing the recognition of our rights in the world and especially to "get to save lives" in the words of the minister who strongly expresses " it is unacceptable that sexual orientation could lead to a death sentence "to be seen if these statements are followed up ...

This is doubtful when, twice, two ministers pledged to withdraw the exclusion of homosexuals on the blood, and two years later, the situation has not moved to the French Blood Establishment (See Commission sos homophobia).
Therefore remain vigilant, mobilized and solidarity.

Back on the World Day against Homophobia

Friday, 18 May 2007
WORLD fight against homophobia
illustration: Patric.

Opinion Patrick:
Wednesday May 16 2007, in the evening, I participated in the distribution of flyers in the streets and bars of Orleans. This distribution took place in the framework of the World Day against homophobia. Some of us have questioned the risk I was taking to address the people in the street. I had the impression that somewhere fear settled among us. Of course, if it can be justified by the spate of homophobic acts, it can have perverse effects and adverse.

I am convinced that this violence does not mean that society is more homophobic. I think the aggressiveness comes more a part of the population sensitive to homophobia. The latter is certainly caused by social suffering. Under this pressure, certain inhibitions have disappeared and these individuals no longer hesitate to take action.

If it is necessary to be prudent, we must relativize because I fear is a bad adviser. It may affect us in our social attitudes to risk cutting us little by little the rest of society. And as anyone can understand self-breeds misunderstanding and therefore discrimination.

For my part I think it should renew such operations and move more towards passers in the street, as I tried to do. In any case include this action as part of Operation All equal, all different "is an excellent idea because we are positioned in a broader context is that of all discrimination. This is a good line of communication because I think many people have, somewhere, a good reason to feel discriminated against for very different reasons.

I spoke with a group of 3 young women who seemed well integrated. They immediately joined my speech because they felt concerned at different levels according to their personal problems. One because it was blonde, the other because it was the third woman and because she was of North African origin. Interesting! not?

IDAHO release: "For a universal decriminalization of homosexuality"

Monday December 4 2006

Homophobie More than 70 countries around the world to condemn homosexuality, and in a dozen countries, the death penalty is the penalty provided by law. To fight against this legal scandal, an international petition has just been launched. It was initiated by Louis-Georges Tin, president of the IDAHO Committee, which coordinates every year around May 17 the International Day against homophobia. The title of this petition is very clear: "For a universal decriminalization of homosexuality" and the text itself is not least because it relies mainly on the articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights . The stakes are raised significantly: it is to achieve a resolution to be sent to the United Nations in the coming months.

This petition is supported by many international associations such as ILGA (International Lesbian and Gay Association) and FIDH (International Federation of Human Rights) but also by many around the world: 5 Nobel Prize (which the Nobel Peace Prize Desmond Tutu), 10 Pulitzer Prize (including Edward Albee and Tony Kushner), politicians flying high (as Jacques Delors, former president of the European Commission, or Thomas Hammarberg, commissioner for the rights of 'Man of the Council of Europe), great intellectuals like Noam Chomsky or Judith Butler, renowned artists like Victoria Abril, Merryl Streep, Cyndi Lauper, David Bowie, Elton John, etc..

Questioned on this issue, Michael Cashman, president of the gay and lesbian Intergroup in the European Parliament, said: "Members of the Intergroup support this initiative of the IDAHO so unanimous. We hope it will go away and it will put pressure on the United Nations. We invite all those who support the rights to sign this petition, and invite their friends to do likewise. "

Alice Nkom, the lawyer who successfully defended the 11 young people arrested for homosexuality in Cameroon last year said: "This resolution creates in us a great hope, and we hope that Louis-Georges Tin, and the Committee IDAHO all their partners to finish their projects. It is a fight for freedom and human rights. "

The battle promises to be obviously difficult, as many heads of state do not hesitate to justify and encourage homophobic violence, but the Committee IDAHO counting on the UN jurisprudence in this area. In 1994, the Committee on Human Rights condemned Tasmania who considered homosexuality a crime. As a result, Tasmania had to change its legislation to conform with international law. The purpose of this petition is to ensure that this Court Tasman be extended to all other countries criminalizing homosexuality. So it is a struggle for freedom.
