Be gay: coming out, sexual orientation

Friday June 6 2008

Here's what can be read in the first part of a series of eight leaflets on the health of homosexual men published by the CRIPS.

It is devoted to sexual orientation and coming out. He responds, for example, these issues quite legitimate and ideas just waiting to be dismantled to feel good, feel gay.

Are we obliged to say that you are gay?

Why the confusion between HIV and homosexuality?

I am gay, attracted but I am not crazy and frankly, I do not recognize myself in the image of consumer sexual sticking to the skin of gays.

A second part deals with the discovery of his homosexuality, whether adult and adolescent. The brochure lays the foundations for a personal reflection on the felt (strong emotions, friendship, physical attraction or love tested when the choices are occurring in adolescence) and the guilt, fear of talking to his wife , Fear not review her children ....

Future issues will focus on sexually transmitted infections, the announcement of HIV, medical advice to patients and doctors, drugs, relations between the couple and domestic violence.

To be continued ....

Trans-Siberian: a comedy not to be missed

Wednesday June 4 2008

The Gagli echoes the new tragic comedy written and performed by Christophe Marcq creator of Madame H. Staged by Joel Side.

Furious, a single bag for luggage, a woman arrived on the dock of a station lost Trans. It is found only in a setting of another time, abandoned between Russia and China. Why is it off the Trans? Who is it?
She said that China, is it only a woman?
And this station in ruins, why inscriptions in Hebrew in the middle of Siberia?
This woman is funny, seductive, talkative, imaginative, capricious, galling of infantilism and, above all, very intriguing. Some may believe Mythomane, mad link, while others admire its freedom, with his body, his life and the world. His humor is a weapon and a mask.
While the Transsiberian railway station reveals its secrets and that the ghosts of the past are, the lower its guard and mask comic breaks.
Stop she finally we "telling stories" to tell us his story? And then, what has really happened in the Trans?
When will she end to this farce finally reveal to us the tragedy?

Hepatitis B: make a plan to vaccinate

Friday 25 April 2008

As part of the week of vaccination from 21 to 27 April 2008, the association Sida Info Service, through its telephone and Internet hepatitis Info Service, with support and advice from the Institute for Prevention and Social Research (PRRO) and CitéGAY.fr, launches website to promote vaccination against hepatitis B to the attention of gay and bisexual men:

www.unvaccinpourlesgays.fr

Hepatitis B is transmitted most often through sexual contact via blood, semen and pre-seminal fluid. In France, 8, 18% of the general population, or nearly 5 million people, has anti-HBc showing contact with hepatitis B. The prevalence rate is 42, 48% in the homosexual population and 15, 64% for reporting against 7 bisexual, 68% for those who declare themselves heterosexual *.

If, for most people, will be spontaneous healing, chronic hepatitis B affects about 300 000 people. Even without symptoms or pain, chronic hepatitis B can lead to cirrhosis or even liver cancer. These complications are more likely in people already infected with HIV.
Despite the current recommendations, vaccination rates against hepatitis B among gay and bisexual men remain particularly weak in France as in most Western industrialized countries, stressed Hervé BAUDOIN, Coordinator of the Shares for Gay AIDS Info Service. Multi-sex partnerships, practices at risk, prevalence rates high and HBV co-infections are factors and data leading to particularly recommend vaccination against hepatitis B to homosexuals and bisexuals.

The beaming of the campaign, "A vaccine for gays?? ", Is assumed facing a public health goal, the fight against hepatitis B, far less within the homosexual community. Hervé BAUDOIN: When we speak of vaccine to the gay community, we usually associate the term to the discovery of a hypothetical vaccine against HIV while there is an offer vaccination, one against hepatitis B, which provides health benefit to all persons with homosexual men, and referred particularly concerned by this campaign.

Philippe Adams, Director of the Institute for Prevention and Social Research (PRRO) adds: While vaccination is a proven benefit in terms of health, some gays do not feel really concerned because they feel protected by virtue of practice the "safer sex" to live as a couple or even to be HIV-positive. Based on the results of research conducted with John de Wit, we produced this site which allows both to correct some false beliefs and thus encourage gays to "make a plan" to go get vaccinated.

Through information and advice to prevent simple to put into practice combined with an interactive quiz, this website aims to intervene on the psychological barriers, social and structural limit the use of vaccination.

An automated system designed by PRRO, first generates messages tailored to each specific situation of users. Participants are encouraged to complete the intervention by a dialogue with a speaker of the hepatitis Info Service using the Web Service Call Back **. This dialogue aims to remove barriers to immunization faced and to help transform an intention to vaccination in a concrete action plan: where, when and how to be vaccinated?

Vaccination against hepatitis B is feasible with his doctor or the Information Center Screening and Diagnosis of Sexually Transmitted Infections (CIDIST) at CHR Orleans and it is supported by health insurance and your mutual.

At first, this action is carried out among gay and bisexual men of Ile-de-France in order to achieve empirical assessment before its possible extension to the entire territory. CitéGAY.fr is media broadcaster of the campaign and advised, with the PRRO, Sida Info Service for the design and implementation of this site. The intervention was made possible through funding from the regional grouping of Public Health Paris (GRSP idf) and technical support of the IDF DRASS led by Dr. Christine project Barbier.

The site is edited www.unvaccinpourlesgays.fr the attention of gay and bisexual men. It exists to the attention of the general population a toll-free number, anonymous and free, and a website to have all the answers to questions that the public or persons affected may be asked: 0 800 845 800 and www.hepatites Info service.org

International Women's Day and health of lesbians

Tuesday March 4 2008

Day of Women On the occasion of International Day of Women, the Gay and Lesbian Action - Loiret decided to meet on February 28 last, Dr. Laurence Wittke, a doctor of family planning Orleans la Source, s to 'maintain everything you ever wanted to know and have never dared to ask about lesbian health, so little discussed in the media.

Here is a summary of the meeting:

Gagli: We want to talk about lesbian health because we have the impression that, by lack of information few of them are followed by a gynecologist, have you noticed you talking sexual orientation with your patients ?

Dr. LW: No, I do not fit the question.

Gagli: Monitoring is the same as for heterosexual women?

Dr. LW: Yes, monitoring is the same.

Gagli: Risks for lack of monitoring are they the same?

Dr. LW: Women in general have breast and uterus, so monitoring is recommended for all. The ideal is a gynecological consultation per year, but better check every three years than ever! We do not really know from how often prevention is effective or below which it no longer.

Gagli: What are the major infectious risks for a woman? When do you most?

Dr. LW: The most common are chlamydia, often without obvious symptoms, which can lead to infertility, "the treatment-minute, four tablets ingested simultaneously, is very effective. Then the fungal infections and vaginosis, which are not classified IST *, and from the imbalance in vaginal flora, their treatment is also very simple and effective. It was the papillomavirus, from which can develop the condyloma and cancer of the cervix.

Screening for chlamydia is by sampling during the examination of the cervix or urinalysis, papillomavirus tracks are also in consideration of the neck by a smear. It takes place from 25 years. Fortunately, the cure rate is over 99% when the papillomavirus is detected in time.

The most serious infections are hepatitis B and HIV, but compared to others, they are much more rare and it is exceptional that it is we who make the diagnosis even if these tests are part of systematic assessments of STIs that we prescribe.

Gagli: The lesbians are concerned by the papillomavirus, the cause of cancer of the cervix. The effectiveness of the vaccine Gardasil, which is advertising on TV, guaranteed?

Dr. LW: It does not protect against all forms of the virus and therefore against all cancers. In cases where it works, we have not yet back to see if it is valid more than five years. We did not back either about the side effects and a real reduction in mortality. What is certain is that it reduces the number of cancer of the cervix.

Gagli: We said it was effective before this age, before or within one year after the first reports, publicity is rather directed hetero, arising they have sex?

Dr. LW: Actually it is hetero-oriented, I do not know.

Gagli: Speaking of prevention is to follow a preventive role in relation to breast cancer, what are the checks, how often?

Dr. LW: The ideal is reviewed annually, consult as soon as there is a doubt! Good to know: There is an explosion in the number of cancers from fifty years, but it also diagnosed among young women.

Gagli: Autopalpation: Could you give us some advice?

Dr. LW: This practice is no longer in fashion: some breasts are harder to review than others, it has mainly generated fears unjustified ...

We will leave here this time but we will soon for new adventures, with other topics, which also include boys, as AHR and homosexual.

Interview with the kind participation of Emilie, Lucile and Christmas.

* STI sexually transmitted infection
